Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Announces Launch of Viagra-Based Treatment for Men Who Have Taken Viagra® in the U. S.

by|Published:16:10 BST, 10 July 2009

If you’ve followed the news of the drug’s arrival, you’ve probably seen a few red flags about it. The drug, which is manufactured by Dr Reddy’s, is widely used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It is also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and is used to treat other health problems.

The first such treatment was Viagra, which the company has now launched under the name, ‘The Blue Pill,’. It’s been available for years under the brand name of ‘Viagra.’

However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning men that taking Viagra can cause a severe drop in blood pressure and can even increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. The FDA also warned men to stop taking the drug if they’re older, have diabetes or if they have recently undergone a heart attack, stroke or liver transplant.

“The risk of heart attacks or strokes increases with longer use and is considered a significant risk of heart failure,” the agency said in a statement.

The warning came just two months after Pfizer’s patent on the drug expired in the United States. It is currently available on the internet.

Dr Reddy’s said: “In the UK it is available over the counter.

“We are currently conducting further studies to assess the safety and efficacy of Viagra-based treatment for men with erectile dysfunction.

“As of now, there is no evidence that Viagra-based treatments are more effective than other treatments.”

It’s not clear if Viagra-based treatments will become available anytime soon.

Dr Reddy’s chief executive officer and head of marketing, Tom O’Connor, said: “The pharmaceutical industry is well aware of the risks associated with the use of certain medications. This is particularly true for men who have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction and who have taken certain medications in the past.”

In a statement he wrote, Pfizer said: “The company continues to work closely with pharmaceutical companies to develop and market new medicines to meet the growing demand for effective treatments for erectile dysfunction and to assist men in the process of achieving and maintaining a healthy sex life.”

The drug is available by prescription only and is designed to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It’s also used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), which is a high blood pressure in the arteries carrying blood to the lungs. The PPH is the only condition in which the arteries in the lungs are able to supply blood to the lungs. As a result, it may also help to reduce the strain on the heart and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The drug is also used to treat erectile dysfunction in men with the condition, which is also referred to as male impotence. The condition is not treatable.

Dr Reddy’s said the drug will be available to patients over the age of 18, and the product will be sold under its own name.

It will be marketed under the name ‘Viagra’ by Pfizer, which is also known as ‘Pfizer’. Pfizer’s marketing campaign to market the drug has also included a advert for the product on television, but the drug has not yet been officially confirmed by the FDA.

In a press release, Pfizer said the drug was launched in the US in September 1998. The company will release a copy of the patent on the drug on 6th November next year.

In an accompanying statement, Pfizer said it is ‘exiring’ the FDA to issue a ‘black box warning’ that it has received in relation to the drug, which is the subject of a public complaint about the product. In the US, the product is still being reviewed.

The company said: ‘We are continuing to work closely with pharmaceutical companies to develop and market new medicines to meet the growing demand for effective treatments for erectile dysfunction and to assist men in the process of achieving and maintaining a healthy sex life.’

In its statement, the company said it has developed and markets a generic version of the Viagra-based treatment. The FDA has not yet approved the drug.
